Who We Are

Spruce Content is a boutique communications consultancy. We create accessible and engaging content for purpose-driven organizations across Canada.

As a remote-first team distributed across Canada, we are grateful to work on the traditional territories, treaty or unceded lands and/or homelands of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Our Leadership Team

Emma - Director

I'm a communications strategist passionate about making niche information accessible to general audiences. In 2022, I started Spruce Content to support public education initiatives by developing informative materials and providing plain-language workshops.

With my background in project management, I've led the lifecycle of digital resources such as websites, print and digital publications, and web-based applications. Over the years, I've delivered engaging workshops for audiences including older adults, teachers, newcomers to Canada, lawyers, government employees, youth, and early childhood educators.

My work is motivated by the belief that reducing communication barriers can improve health and justice outcomes for the public. My friends and colleagues know me by my contagious "calm enthusiasm" and consistent, high-quality work.

Claire - Writing Lead

Not everyone loves writing, but I do! I am passionate about finding the right words for the right context. Whether I'm working on public campaigns, policy briefs, press releases, or social media content, I love playing with language to get the most out of my communications.

My background is in communications and marketing for health and mental health organizations. I am passionate about health equity and upstream solutions to health barriers, and I strongly believe that good quality communication is a powerful tool for positive change.

Plain Language for Lawyers

After working with dozens of lawyers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, we have insights to share. Plain Language for Lawyers is a resource hub for legal professionals who want to bridge the communication gap between themselves and their clients.

Many lawyers want to communicate clearly with their clients. Many understand the importance of plain language when communicating with someone outside of their field. But it isn't always easy to apply the principles of plain language to your daily practice.
